Follow

hey, I think I said this before but I'm really sorry if you follow and I don't follow back immediately

It's hard to get out of the twitter mindset of being really protective and worried that every new follower is some weirdo, haha. Opening up and making friends is hard

@ShugoWah
Vetting new followers on birdsite:

>check mutual followers to see if they're 'on the level'
>check their recent posts
>still probably don't follow them back because you don't know them

Here:
>Are they also a furry?
>Did you have a pleasant interaction with them?

Sure, why not?

@Tallybat
This has pretty much been his I've been doing it too, lol.
@ShugoWah

@ShugoWah but also it's not a problem if you don't follow back! There's no obligation and don't feel like by not following back you're snubbing someone or something

@Felthry @ShugoWah one of the things I love about mastodon is that I can have a private/locked account that isn't locked away from the outside world, you don't actually need to have someone follow you to be able to communicate with them. It's wonderful.

@Violet @ShugoWah every little thing we hear about how twitter works makes me wonder how on earth anyone actually ever used the site

@ShugoWah don't sweat it too much, honestly; there's way less of a boundary between following and not following people what with A) not having those numbers constantly shoved in your face and B) the fact that y'know harassment is actually cracked down upon creates a better atmosphere for mentioning people you don't already know in good faith anyway
