Subtoot; apparently I have really strong opinions about superpower registration, a fictional issue I’d previously not even thought I *had* opinions about.

@kelseyhusky @ElectricKeet @LexYeen@snouts.online okay, I don’t just object to superpower registration, I *hate* that idea.

If you’re Tony Stark or Hank Pym, you report and maybe pay any license fee, and no big. If you’re Peter Parker that’s effort and money you probably can’t spare. If you’re Jane Foster, registering is a gigantic amount of effort and the rest of your day you’re a wreck.

If you’re most Xavier school students you’ve just been outted to your parents. That won’t go well.

@kelseyhusky @ElectricKeet @LexYeen@snouts.online And if you’re Erik Lensherr you go “warum mussen Sie kennen, so Sie wisst was andere Nummere am mich sollen sei?” Most marginalized supers will be distrustful and possibly too strapped for yet another registration fee.

The result is minorities will under-report superpowers and at *best* that means you get kids like Miles Morales thinking they’re isolated and freakish b/c the only known supers they ever see are more white people. It’s not good.

@Leucrotta @ElectricKeet @LexYeen@snouts.online That certainly is an aspect that I hadn't considered fully. I was against it just on the principle that the chance of abuse gets higher the more government lists you appear on.

I feel like powers should be treated as privileged medical information, unable to be disclosed except by informed consent to persons who are held liable for breaking confidentiality.
