some of those amtrak trains just have ridiculous consists. like, you'll be running a max-height loco with a consist of single-deck circular cars, what???
@pearshapes i have no idea what any part of this sentence means
-F
@pearshapes but like what does consist mean in this context, and why is it strange?
-F
@Felthry consist means essentially what's behind the locomotive. so if you have two oil tanks and a cargo container behind a locomotive, that is its consist
in this context, it looks weird because the form factors are all off. Amtrak makes some especially powerful and tall intercity locomotives for high-speed transit and you'll sometimes see them coupled up to these tubey shortstack cars that don't look right at all
@pearshapes probably something to do with amtrak having basically zero funding
-F
@Felthry yeah. at least the stainless steel / chrome look is good. can't say the same for the locomotive itself, but hey
@Felthry sounds accurate
@pearshapes i remember when i was younger, maybe a year or two ago, id go to columbus wi (empire builder) and just go trainspotting for a day, and a few times ive seen those restored/private cars on the back,so far only twice
but yeah that does look goofy
