opinions about salsa
I bought some Newman's Own peach salsa because it looked like the best thing the small grocery store had.
This was a mistake.
It tastes like peach jelly with a hint of spicy tomato. Way, way too sweet. 3/10 would not salsa again.
opinions about salsa
@ThatDamnCat I grew up in New Mexico so I think I have pretty reasonable salsa opinions (and I don't actually like a lot of Texas-style salsas). A lot of places don't have good salsa up here in the PNW though.
opinions about salsa
@ThatDamnCat (IMO a lot of texas salsas over-emphasize tomato and tend to be closer to pico de gaillo which is okay but not usually what I'm looking for)
opinions about salsa
@ThatDamnCat (on the other hand, a lot of arizona salsa tends to be a miss for me too -- goes too far in the opposite direction of being a homogeneous heat paste)
opinions about salsa
Arizona is also another animal.
Either way, we get a lot of New Mexico style influence here because it's trendy. It's okay to share shelf space here because the variety of salsas is so huge there's no lack of something new to try, and the demand is high enough that a large portion of aisles is dedicated to salsas.

@ThatDamnCat Having not actually spent a lot of time in Texas, can you get green chile burgers there yet?
opinions about salsa
Of course
Austin has exploded with variety over the last 15 years. I couldn't say about other parts of Texas because I don't spend enough time eating in other Texas cities but Austin has had that for years, and many more choices to boot.
opinions about salsa
New Mexico does have an entirely different taste than Texas. I've sampled the fare a number of times to experience the differences.
I get ya.
opinions about salsa
@starkatt I will admit that I enjoy those sorts of salsas...but only if they're medium to hot. I find that if it's a pairing of habanero or jalapeño that the sweet really brings out the smokey flavor of the pepper.
...as to what they're good on, I like them as a topping to fish or chicken :P
opinions about salsa
@KoBunny Oh, I can like a salsa with a bit of fruit too. This one is hardly even spicy, though. It really does taste more like jelly.

@starkatt
We can talk about salsa. I have a good source.
I live in Texas.
I can help you seek good salsa
