the word praxis makes me mildly, vaguely uncomfortable for some reason
@typhlosion have you been listening to alice isn't dead...?
@verity i don't know what that is!
@typhlosion ah! it's a podcast
@typhlosion er, in which the word takes on a slightly sinister meaning - well, it's the name of A Sinister Agency
@typhlosion I associate it with Neal Stephenson's novel Anathem, which I quite enjoy, and have no idea what it means in the real world
@DialMforMara evidently it means "to put your beliefs (particularly socialist/communist beliefs) into practice". it's just a bit of jargon, to say that a thing or person has good or bad praxis based on how their beliefs manifest into actions
@typhlosion Interesting. I'd heard it associated with "Silicon Valley types", with whom I do not associate socialism :P
@DialMforMara @typhlosion I use it in religious/spiritual contexts to talk about "living faith" as distinct from "having faith." In olden days, I would've said "walking the walk and not just talking the talk," but for once the shorter word won out over the bulky phrase in my vocabulary.
@typhlosion honestly it just reminds me of a local chain of DIY stores https://awoo.space/media/EynlUJ3F9xW2PK5jW7c
@typhlosion you need a sixpraxis controller to counteract the discomfort
