uspol-adjacent; education; philistines; vent; probably don't read
Wanna shank this reductionist shit. Leave it to an economist to dismiss the ideal of an educated polity with some critical thinking skills as "romantic notions about education being 'good for the soul.'" I guess I could expect no better, since this POS Brian Caplan clearly has no soul of his own to feed.
I wrote him a very nasty letter. Maybe actionable, in this day and age, I don't know. I don't care.

@Leucrotta Heh. It's funny you should mention that. You wanna talk about cognitive dissonance, look at his OTHER book:
re: uspol-adjacent; education; philistines; vent; probably don't read
@Leucrotta Oh, and also: "don't forget to breed more ignorant people for our system to crush up."
Real quote, an extreme of Randianism we've joked about for years but never thought we'd see:
"Parents who endure needless toil and sacrifice are overcharging themselves for every child. "

@zebratron2084 People like that being named things like Caplan are a true horror to me. It's bad enough that I grew up with my people portrayed only as inhuman greed monsters; it's horrifying to me every time one of us is that stereotype.
re: uspol-adjacent; education; philistines; vent; probably don't read
@Leucrotta His solution? Let business take over more functions from government, because Clearly Democracy Just Doesn't Work.
"Caplan lays out several bold ways to make democratic government work better--for example, urging economic educators to focus on correcting popular misconceptions and recommending that democracies do less and let markets take up the slack."
I hate this man so fucking much.
