Work, ~, FWP.

One reason the bitching about my sick days annoys me so much at work is I'm hilariously profitable. In the last month I've brought in enough that I could sit on my ass til 2020 and they'd still have broken even. And that was a *side project*.

That makes the nitpicking over that shit..grate a little more. Plus it's an office job, it's not like I'm sticking my co workers with extra shifts here.

Work, -

Was sick yesterday. I have enough time off to cover it but the boss decided bti change the rules on when it can be spent so "technically" I don't. Waiting to see what their response is.

(they also changed the rules so I couldn't work overtime as easily, which since I do that for comp time

Too much sex?

@ElectricKeet what of they're orange blue taste blind? ;)

Dear feet: I know the hips have been hurting but that's not a reason for you to cramp up. Not a competition thanks!

@starkatt So during an eclipse we are surrounded by your gender!

Breakfast with the birds before we fly. (open air restaurant plus bold local birds means constant feathers flitting about looking for food)

And then the wind picked up, once, twice, thrice, each time stronger and longer and I felt that we should go before the voice of the place was raised to press the point.

We left, and the journey took no time at all. The world still turned around the place that we left. We were escorted on our way out by a bird of fire I had not seen before on the island, do not expect to again. We entered the wood, emerged again, departed toward the car. Quietly. To keep respect.

Precious mineral or long-dead beetle chitin, I couldn't tell. Onward, always onward, until the circle be complete. We had to tread very close to the red stone and it felt like nearing sacrelige. But that was the path, such as it was.

Afterward, we rested. I washed hands and face and poured some of my little remaining water into the rocks outside the red stone, in offering. We waited, we rested. The world turned here, but time did not pass.

This was the axis mundi, this was sacred space, this was part of something outside the rest of the island. The glyphs were carved here minutes or millennia ago, ancient peoples working with chisel land rock.

There was a path around it, a circumnavigation just outside the red stone. The air did not move. We started the circuit. We could not go back, once we started. We had to see completion.

We stopped sometimes to stare. I found a small irridescent blue spot in the dirt.

We entered a wood of trees so old that the greenery looked out of place. New life wasn't right here, this was a place of ages. We ducked under branches, clambered over lava rock, moved through the dead trees and through the silence. I spoke and regretted the sound. Even whispers were too loud.

So we walked through the days and years and at last emerged from the wood into scrubland, like passing through the exit of a hedge maze, a labyrinth. The trail beckoned yet.

Travel day 4

@Doephin Soreth and I both needed time to recover after that. It's was an unexpectdly powerful place.

The rest of the day was good, if mundane next to that; she went snorkeling while I waded and rested. You'd think with a bum leg a 1.4 mile rough hike I'd be in pain but I seem to have recovered just in time. Tired, worn down but fine.

Dinner after that, the last one here, then a lazy evening. Home tomorrow.

@Doephin An expanse of pillow lava with carvings, ancient and often quite deep. The trail circles around but only the front is clearly fenced and marked; going around was rough. Going past the fence felt like desecration, sacralige, in a way, for all that it was a marked trail.

We completed the circle, rested for a bit then walked back. The trail out felt like it took infinitly less time than the route in. The trail was rough, not marked yet never unclear.

@Doephin We came to a small cave, at the side of the trail. A resting spot, shelter. Off the other side of the trail was a small circular spot. Nothing noted, no signs nothing carved but everything screamed at me that this was An Important Place. Soreth said it remindes her of the stories of man emerging from the earth.

From there the woods gives way to open scrub and I was able to recover some. Soon enough though, there's the actual site. (cont)

@Doephin The path starts as a concrete trail through lava rock with a cairn here and there. There's a small area with reproductions of the glypths and then it gets much rougher and you enter what felt like a very old forest.

I had many ideas of how the day was going to go; walking unaware into what felt like the holiest place I've ever been wasn't it. Moving quietly through the trees, duck branches sidestep rocks, the feeling builds. It peaks 3/4 in. (cont)

@Doephin Lava rock and ocean on the side, interspaced with greenery. Ahead, the peak of Kohalo. Off to one side, Mauna Kea. The shield volcanos are less picturesque than Rainier, almost deceptive in a way. The slopes look so gentle you can forget it's a ~14000 foot mountain many miles away!

The ocean at the next park was beautiful. Lots of rock and washed up coral, tide pools. Then we turned around and found the path to the petroglyphs. It's almost hidden, really? (cont)

Travel day 4

@Doephin This was not what I expected of today. In a good way. Woke up in much less pain, yay! We aborted going to the black sand beach after yesterday. Instead, breakfast, then shopping in the local town. After that and lunch we headed to a couple of parks. The first featured some info and demonstration of old Hawaiian farming and fishing, plus a lot of stark lava. We only went partially in here, it's a big park. After that we drove north. Great views on the way (cont)

@Soreth The dress seller deserves special mention I think :)
