Aaaaand the XBone gamepad I use for all my PC gaming just broke and is now sending spurious inputs, rendering it useless for everything.
Any recommendations for a wired X360-compatible gamepad that'll last more than eight months and doesn't treat the D-pad like an afterthought?
@ElectricKeet it seems unpopular for some reason but i like sony dualshock 3 as a general-use PC controller with a decent d-pad
DS4 is more popular these days and has that nice trackpad but the battery life and build quality are worse
for emulation i like to use converters for the actual relevant console controllers
@ElectricKeet oh, i'm not sure if my choices count as wired. they can be wired, but don't have to be.
@gatewave If the wire is optional that's fine, so long as it can actually be plugged in and send data via wire instead of just charging from it.
@ElectricKeet that's a yes for the DS3 and probably the DS4 then. and certainly the adapted older console controllers.
@gatewave Last time I played with using a DS3 controller on PC, the software was kinda dodgy, but... I think I'm willing to dig up one of mine and have another go at it. Thanks for the recommendation!
@ElectricKeet ah, cool. the software side has improved immensely in the last 5 years
i still use SCPToolkit with good results https://sourceforge.net/projects/scptoolkit.mirror/
DS4Windows is newer but i have not used it and see conflicting info on whether it supports DS3
also Steam now natively supports DS4 but i am not sure about DS3
finally ViGEm is a new and promising project but i'm not sure how useable it is yet

@ElectricKeet I usually use a PS3 controller on my Mac although getting it to work on Windows is a bit of a challenge. It has a pretty good d-pad though.
Also a lot of developers I know use the Switch Pro Controller which apparently works perfectly out of the box. And being Nintendo, the inventors of the d-pad, the d-pad is pretty darn good.
@fluffy Ooh. If using one of my long-neglected PS3 controllers doesn't do the trick, I just might go that route. Thanks!
@ElectricKeet At least for the time being, you can borrow mine. You get much more use out of it than I do. At least when I'm not home while you're looking for alternatives.
@literorrery Thanks, love! I'll go ahead and test with the DS3 first, since we have those Just Sitting Around, but that'll be a good fallback plan if if I do have to purchase Yet Another Gamepad. (I have the worst luck with these, so I kinda wanna spare yours if I can!)
@ElectricKeet maybe a hori?
At this point, I'm even willing to drop Real Capitalist Dollars at "pro gamer" kit if it's actually built to survive contact with actual use.
