Adobe Photoshop CC and niche configurations. 

At first, Photoshop worked fine.

After an upgrade, I started having the weirdest performance issues. It would seem to take forever to start up, but if I brought up the Task Manager, it would instantly jump forward to normal operation. The same would happen for dialogue boxes, including Preferences. Drawing a marquee would seem to stall, then eventually work... and then dragging anything around would happen at about one frame per second.

I won't go through the many, many steps I took to squash the problem, but here's what works:

- showing on notebook PC's built-in display
- showing on extended desktop on external monitor via HDMI
- showing on extended desktop on external monitor via USB→DisplayPort adapter

Here's what doesn't work after the update:

- showing on extended desktop on external monitor via USB→DisplayPort adapter while variable-rate refresh (GSync and the like) is enabled

At least I found an easy fix; I could have been banging my head on that one for a long time!

Today's peeve: Cartoon horse tint. 

The careful observer will see that Rarity's coat color is not white, but in fact very pale grey.

The careful observer with good color vision will see that Princess Celestia's coat color is not white, bit in fack very pale pink.

Perhaps I consider this a little too important, because I grumble just a little every time I see either of them rendered with a pure white coat.

"Nearly thirty years after its first broadcast and close to twenty since its troubled DVD release, Babylon 5 is finally getting a polish. From today, Warner Bros. is launching Babylon 5 Remastered both as a digital download (from iTunes and Amazon where available globally) and on HBO Max. It might not be the perfect version of the show that its creators had intended, but it’s likely the best we’re gonna get.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson told Engadget that Babylon 5 Remastered has been scanned from the original camera negative. The film sequences were scanned in 4K and then “finished,” or downscaled, back to HD, with a dirt and scratch clean-up, as well as color correction. The show’s CGI and composite sequences, meanwhile, have been digitally upscaled to HD with only some minor tweaks where absolutely necessary."

@sathariel In short, I love the idea of Esperanto, but I think other language projects working off of Esperanto as a model have done a better job of really expressing the goals that Dr. Zamenhof set out than his own creation did.

But if nothing else, Esperanto got people talking about constructed languages in public and I think that's pretty neat.

@packbat On the City of Heroes server I'm playing on, I made a self-styled character unsurprisingly named "Electric Keet". I then got the urge to make a second one more like what I played on the original servers, but a little more offense-focused. What to name them?

"Electric F'n Keet", of course.

(How do I distinguish between the two when discussing them with my spouse? One is said as "Effin' Keet" so the other has become "Huffin' Keet".)
