random thought: are there any game boy games that don't play properly on a game boy color? likewise for gb/gbc on gba?

@Felthry According to the Nintendo website, original Gameboy games aren't always compatible with newer consoles:

A very small number of older games may not function properly on the Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, or Game Boy Advance SP. Common symptoms include scrambled images, missing graphics, or sound problems.

In general I'd guess compatibility is pretty high since it's mostly hardware

@trwnh we never knew you could play gbc games on a gb! I knew there were game boy games that had enhanced functionality when played on a gbc though

wait, are we talking about the same thing? the ones that came in black (or gold/silver in the case of pokemon) cartridges with the game-boy-style concave logo bit?

@trwnh I dunno what they're officially called, I just know we had one or two when we were kids

@Felthry Closest thing I can think of is Pokémon Gold and Silver - fine during normal operation, but they have extra glitches on Game Boy Colour due to it being possible to reboot them into monochrome mode while playing on a GBC?
