it feels like every smash game where there's a sizable competitive scene has one character that's just completely broken. melee has fox, brawl has meta knight, smash 4 has bayonetta--who's the equivalent for ultimate?
Not sure if there's one for 64 either
@Felthry Pikachu, isn't it?
@pillowcat @Felthry pikachu is really good, at least at launch pichu was actually considered better, and also (at least early on) anyone with a sword was very good, but i don't know if anyone is a standout obvious winner. i haven't been in the scene for a long time now
@pillowcat @Felthry actually this is for ultimate, but you may have been talking about 64 where pikachu is also really good
@Felthry worth noting that, while fox is #1 in melee, it's not a huge gap between fox and falco (in fact, there are top players who argue that falco is better)
marth is not too far behind either, and also i've heard people make the argument that jigglypuff might be the best in a tournament setting (least susceptible to giving up stocks to bad inputs due to nerves/cold/whatever else). but i don't know how much of that is just salt (no one likes fighting jigglypuff)
@monorail is jigglypuff good for anything other than rest or is rest just *that* broken?
@pillowcat @Felthry @monorail Down throw is good too but for different reasons. :P
@BatElite @pillowcat @Felthry combo into rest :P
@Felthry her recovery is really good, iirc floaties are harder to combo, bair is a fucking nightmare to deal with
like look at this
@Felthry also rest is good
@Felthry In Melee, Fox being completely broken (or, players only playing Final Destination, actually) is a bit more meme than fact. Fox, Falco, Marth, Jigglypuff, and Peach have all historically performed extremely well.
It's true that Fox gets *used* the most among would-be competitive players the most, but that's actually kind of *because* of the meme. It's a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy; people keep saying competitive Melee is Fox Only, Final Destination, and people believe it going in.
@connie Are Meta Knight and Bayonetta actually as broken as the meme says, though?
@Felthry absolutely! Smash Ultimate seems to be the most balanced the series has ever been by a long shot, though.
@Felthry Ultimate gets regular balancing updates
p sure 64 has multiple completely broken characters
