you ever just wonder.... how did anyone ever figure out how to make bread
-F

take this grass and grind up its seeds, mix that with water and stuff and (important!) leave it out in the open for a little while until your grass powder lump becomes a bigger grass powder lump, then cook that
-F

give it a few millennia of recipe developing and you end up with stuff like croissants and panettone, the ridiculously complicated breads that take days to make
-F

this thought brought to you by us learning how absurdly complicated a process it is to make panettone
-F

@Felthry probably made some sort of porridge and forgot it on the fire

@Felthry and yeast just happens naturally if you leave it out for a while

@Felthry like, even with a rolling pin a decent pastry dough will take a few hours tops

@noiob I've never made it from scratch but I've heard croissants are really involved to make the dough--a few days is an exaggeration though
-F

@Felthry I mean nowadays you just fold it, then throw it in a machine to get rolled, repeat that. I think for home baking the common sense is to buy premade

@noiob yeah but when the recipe was first invented you couldn't get premade!
-F

@Felthry yeah but all pastries are kinda complicated to make, it's basically the point, and why they're expensive
