@monsterblue it's not actually anything special about the activated carbon itself, it bonds just as well as normal charcoal to stuff

it's just that activated carbon has such ridiculously high surface area that there's a ton of space to bond to--we remember seeing a figure once of a football field of area per gram of activated carbon

@monsterblue we've also seen activated charcoal used as a black food coloring, though it's not a great choice for that because, though it's pretty much completely harmless under ordinary circumstances, it can interfere with medicine uptake in the same way it interferes with toxin uptake

there's also activated alumina! that's usually used in desiccants, it's not as biocompatible as activated charcoal

then you think about the side games and X-2s and whatnot

there's actually a lore reason for them missing so much also--i forget exactly what but they were given orders not to kill or something along those lines; they were actually trying to avoid hitting anyone while looking like they were trying to hit people

you know what's *really* good? when a story has a really unexpected plot twist that makes you recontextualize *everything* that has happened up to that point

even better when you get stuff like "oh that innocent comment from five books ago takes on an entirely different light when you know that the one saying it secretly knew the truth the whole time" or whatever

is it just us or does it stress anyone else the fuck out when people say to make the most of an opportunity

because *fuck now we need to optimize every little thing* and that's way too overwhelming and then we can't actually do it and the opportunity ends up slipping by with us having made far less of it than we would have otherwise

@LexYeen well yeah putting anything through a rectifier will give you DC, but it won't be very stable if it's from something as variable-frequency as a bike--you'll need circuitry to stabilize it

(and if you're concerned about efficiency, maybe consider a synchronous rectifier instead of just diodes)
