@lioness it's just a methylated anthranilic acid, which is an amino acid https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthranilic_acid (though not one of the ones that occurs in proteins)

@monsterblue @ikrupp we love artificial banana flavored stuff and also real banana flavored stuff too
we have occasionally wondered why there isn't banana soda (at least not easily available here in the US), i want to try that sometime
also just a really nice fruit in general
-F
@ikrupp but hey, you're possibly the first person we've heard express an actual *like* for the flavor, most people seem to really dislike it
-F
@ikrupp it's a really common story thats been going around the internet for ages? And we only have the one data point against it, so I couldn't really say
-F
fun fact: fake grape was the first artificial flavoring made, and it's called grape because the person who discovered it (accidentally, i might add) noted that its taste reminded them of grapes--might be specifically of wine even? i don't recall
it turns out to be a compound that's present in small amounts in certain varieties (but not all or even most) of grape, and present in larger concentrations in some red wines
-F
@ikrupp i'm pretty sure that's a myth, we've heard from someone who actually has tried gros michel bananas (they still exist, they're just not commercially viable to grow anymore due to disease problems) that they don't really taste anything like that either
but either way it's a good flavor, whether based on reality or not

re: old advertisement for a bizarre 60s product including a human face (no eye contact)
@noiob actually apparently the mini records failed hard, we just learned. apparently they cost the same as a *current* single despite having music from several years ago and being of a lower sound quality than a normal 45 rpm record
which, whatever sales executive made *that* decision clearly wasn't very good at their job

re: old advertisement for a bizarre 60s product including a human face (no eye contact)
@noiob the records were probably at least a moderate success, but the earrings, i just can't see anyone actually wearing those?
-F
old advertisement for a bizarre 60s product including a human face (no eye contact)
okay what the hell is this, i can't help but wonder if anyone actually bought these
this wasn't a marketing gimmick for the mini-records--well, no, it was, but this ad is actually marketing the earrings themselves as a way of carrying your mini records (called "hip pockets", basically they were hits from a couple years ago on tiny records marketed at kids in the 60s)

@monsterblue i love the general attitude of the tail one here
-F
@fluxom_alt that sounds like it could be some sort of panic attack or other stress-related thing? we've gotten that a couple of times
-F
@tabitha@chitter.xyz i don''t think we're likely to end up with too many more buttons than we have now on the standard controller layout
you could maybe get two more face buttons like the genesis six-button controller, and the R/L4 and R/L5 like the steam deck has, but I don't think you'll see too much more than that
