@heatherhorns masers were invented long before lasers, and the first lasers were actually called "optical masers", as they were the same principle but operated on visible light insteead of microwaves/radio waves

leaving work for lunch today, we saw a building down the street that was *pouring* out smoke

we didn't stop to offer aid because there were already a ton of emergency vehicles there and we'd just get in the way before we'd manage to do anything useful

i hope everyone is okay, though

that's the first time we've seen something like that actually happening in real time, in person
