@MindmeshLink ah okay, i wasn't sure if there was some kind of programming tool called garlic
-F
@MindmeshLink i legitimately can't tell if this is a nonsense post or not
-F
@heatherhorns @Nine interogess is pretty hot
-F
@rainwarrior @NovaSquirrel yeah, i should also note that our opinions on this might be colored by the fact that we do electrical engineering as a job, and of course any tool you use regularly day in and day out you end up getting Opinions about
(also, we don't have to pay for the equipment we use at work. so the price is less of a concern to us--it needs to fit budgets, but that's more "we can get a $10k scope, but that $80k one is out of the question". companies have Too Much Money.)
-F
@rainwarrior @NovaSquirrel *looks it up* Oh, it's one of those little pocket oscilloscopes. we've never used one of those, and have never really heard anything positive about them
probably better off finding a used tektronix on ebay or something
-F
@rainwarrior @NovaSquirrel A *lot* of companies name their scopes DSOxxxx (it's a well-known acronym that just means "digital storage oscilloscope"); you'll need to specify what brand you're talking about
-F
@NovaSquirrel Getting an oscilloscope is worth it if you plan to do much electronics stuff. You can get some decent low-bandwidth (~50 MHz) ones for under $400 these days
-F
@sharkNserg we got a new phone a few months ago that had a version of android that had that
we immediately asked about how to get it back how it used to be with five screens of icons and the home screen in the middle of them (it turned out to be pretty easy actually but needed to buy a like $3 app)

re: weird furry problems
@gardevoir ...what does this mean
-F
@ziphi C♯ lydian is a perfectly reasonable key
-F
@noracodes you're welcome! if we think of any more we'll let you know
-F
@noracodes as far as new options go, we can make a specific recommendation for the GW Instek GPP-4323 as a really handy power supply. 4 channels; two 32 V/3 A, 1 15 V/1 A, and 1 5 V/1 A, and the 32 V channels can be internally put in series or parallel. I think it costs more than half your budget if you get a new one though, unfortunately
-F
@noracodes (stuff from the 80s and older is probably going to be quite reliable, because the late 80s to 90s is around when they stopped building stuff to last. we have a power supply from the 60s at work and it's given us less trouble than almost anything else we have there)
-F
@noracodes The best advice I can give is that when working with a budget, the best choice is usually to get whatever the best stuff you can find cheap on ebay is--look for used stuff from HP/Agilent/Keysight, Tektronix, Keithley, Fluke, Wavetek, and other brands you recognise, not new stuff from brands no one's heard of. Especially for power supplies and multimeters, there haven't been any major advancements in the last few decades, so look out specifically for stuff that looks ~80s vintage
-F
@MindmeshLink what's the password game?
-F
@roxy New Switchtendo
-F
@oceanotter Would be very slow
-F
@ziphi The ones you made last time were extremely good! (we still have one of them hanging on our wall 💚) I'm excited to see what you come up with this time, but don't push yourself too hard
-F
@packetcat i parsed this as being about the programming language before looking at the rest of the thread and that was somewhat amusing
