re: shinespark mechanics re: Metroid Dread

@socks you're welcome! to be honest i'm not sure if maintaining a boost through a wall jump is even intentional or if it's a glitch, we've not encountered a puzzle yet that needs it (we've hardly done them all though) and the timing is kind of hard

re: shinespark mechanics re: Metroid Dread

@socks and yeah you could shinespark out of a spin jump in every other metroid game we bothered to do shinespark puzzles in so i don't know why you can't in this one

shinespark mechanics re: Metroid Dread

@socks from one of the puzzles I've come across it looks like it has to be possible to do it off of a cling wall, but I've not been able to get it yet (the part with the cling wall is itself really difficult to get to so we haven't tried many times)

one other thing is it *is* possible if you're fast on the inputs to maintain a speed boost through a wall jump, which redirects it in the opposite direction (not a shinespark obviously but you frequently need to get your speed boost state far enough along so the shinespark can be stored long enough)

also, it *is* possible to do a shinespark in midair, but you have to not be in the spin jump state; you can exit that state by firing a shot or pressing ZR to go into morph ball. or you can just fall off a ledge instead of jumping, if the puzzle gives you a ledge to fall off

@socks what stuff do you know? There's not anything that gets added to shinesparks later but there are some mechanics that are a little hard to figure out and aren't explained -F

@socks I mean we're not particularly good at shinespark puzzles in general but some of these are just "how the actual fuck"

re: vrchat photo, alcohol mention

@sharkNserg aaa tiny connie is wonderful
-F

it's still weird to us that metroid dread actually happened
-F

@heatherhorns the one on the right feels weird, the face buttons are on the left side of the controller?
-F

@avie they say "out for delivery" when they're on the way to your mailbox
-F

@noiob just packaged up to be easily positioned with a pick-and-place machine, and to take as little board space as possible
-F

@noiob I mean it's the same exact thing, a wire passing through a deliberately lossy ferrite
-F

re: physics joke

@terrana I thought it was all decided by people named Cope and Hagan!
-F

@noiob digikey.com/en/products/detail they exist! and are really common actually

the kind you thread a wire through don't really work for high-density surface-mount boards
-F

do ferrite beads count as inductors?

@terrana That sounds like a fantastic dream, regardless of what else happened that you don't remember.
-F

even as a half-decent metroid player, some of the shinespark puzzles in dread have us just staring at the screen, thinking varyingly either "how on earth are you supposed to do *that*" or just plain "what the *fuck*"
