for those not familiar: phenolic paper (usually grade FR-2) is a PCB material that hasn't really been used since the 70s or 80s in anything but the absolute cheapest stuff, and even the absolute cheapest stuff these days is going more and more towards FR-4 fiberglass

saw a video supposedly about why circuit boards are green, thought "hey why *is* it that soldermask is usually green anyway" and gave it a click

one of the first lines in it states that circuit boards are usually made of phenolic paper

instantly lost all trust for whatever the person in the video was saying because how do you do *any* amount of research into circuit boards and think that phenolic paper is a current thing in common use??

@Hayling@weirder.earth the root cause of the bug is probably some overzealous dynamic culling that tries to cut distant objects to keep the framerate up, but something's wrong with it and it's cutting near objects too

but there's nothing you can do about that unless you're a programmer at fromsoft

@Hayling@weirder.earth apparently the bug happens when the game can't maintain its expected frame rate, so the biggest thing you can do to fix it is just reduce the graphics settings--anything else that lowers the load on your GPU would help too, like running in fullscreen instead of windowed, closing other programs, etc

hey @Hayling@weirder.earth, you mentioned at some point that elden ring had invisible enemies on your computer right? we learned what causes that bug and how to fix it, if you want to know (it boils down to lowering your graphics settings)
