re: Musing on my experiences with animism
@mawr i feel like animism is closest to how our spirituality works too. it might not extend to everything, but everything living, natural, and/or durable for sure--by durable i mean stuff not made to be disposed of, so tools, equipment, books, buildings, plushes, but not napkins, drink bottles, or laundry detergent

Please suggest: instances with non-white admins or mods
I would like to be able to make recommendations to BIPOC who have been scared off by the (non)moderation of mastodon.social and some of the other bigger instances.
If you know of an instance where there are non-white people who are doing the moderation (and also that the moderation is good) please let me know.
Thank you, comrades! <3
@astra oh goodness, sounds very cuddleable

we're reading a book about how machine translation works using the example of when the author put the script of final fantasy IV through google translate, both before and after they switched to a neural network translation model in 2016
seeing all the absurdities that came of that makes me want to see someone who's never played final fantasy iv play the machine translated version and see if they can ever work out what the hell is going on

@KinkyTurtle We don't do internet stuff on our phone in general so not really. We've heard good things about Tusky and Toot!, though. One of those is android-only and one is ios-only, not sure which is which.
-F
@KinkyTurtle Do you mean the official app? Because if so, you should probably know the official app is intentionally missing a lot of features because gargron wants to turn this into twitter 2 instead of its own thing. There are much better apps out there

@LexYeen that's a difficult question, like one of those "i know it when i see it" things

re: carbonated sugar water
@LexYeen we were one of those kids who would always mix three or four drinks at self-serve soda fountains, usually with unpalatable results, but we liked it anyway because it was sugar water and we were like seven

re: carbonated sugar water
@LexYeen we have always kind of wanted to taste what half and half pepsi and coke would taste like

food and seasoning
@KinkyTurtle fortunately, you can add a little more salt after the fact without too much trouble! it might just not be very well dissolved, which would mess up the texture a bit. Use big flaky salt though and you can say you intended it to be that way! Or you could saltify it with a splash of soy sauce perhaps! Not sure how that would go, but it might taste good.
spices are hard to add afterward though, at least the powdered kinds. Fresh ground black pepper can usually be added, or some dried (or fresh!) herbs. The flavors you have in there would probably go well with sage, thyme, or maybe some rosemary? Basil is also usually a safe bet for most things.
Maybe stir through some chopped garlic, though you'd probably want to saute it instead of using raw garlic, raw would probably be too intense.

in the majority of final fantasy games, blue mages just have to be hit by the attack to learn it (which leads to some interesting difficulty getting healing magic from enemies, as they don't use it on you normally)
but then you have final fantasy ix, where quina just learns enemy abilities by just straight-up eating them

re: I just used both my new appliances to make dinner! (Long boring description of kitchen antics follows)
@KinkyTurtle was it a good pilaf?
