@owashii@plush.city Did you know that deku nuts are the single largest hitbox in the game?

re: Ocarina of Time

@owashii@plush.city Some things, it's better to just think of them as a purely gameplay mechanic, I think
-F

@owashii@plush.city Four Swords is easier to play on dsi/3ds than gba, because that version can be done singleplayer, if you ever want to go finish it!

The speedrun stuff is why we have such an understanding of the internal mechanics of some games, like why we knew that WW/TP/SS share the same engine despite looking extremely different
-F

@owashii@plush.city @Lotherme most of what we know about them comes from 1) having played almost all of them at least once (all but the cdi ones and tri force heroes) and 2) being really interested in the glitches used in speedruns, which ends up touching on lots of different stuff like games that share an engine
-F

@owashii@plush.city @Lotherme to be fair rupee-likes only appear in a handful of games. four swords, four swords adventures (where they steal force gems, not rupees), and maybe phantom hourglass i think?

re: Star Wars thoughts

@tabitha@chitter.xyz it's also possible that the entire "obi-wan isn't as good at his job as he thinks he is" angle is unintentional and due to poor writing--the prequels were not that well written

supposedly the prequels were george lucas's work entirely, where the original trilogy had lots of input and editing from his wife, which i can see that--they're very different
-F

@owashii@plush.city @Lotherme it's a rupee-like that takes your money, not a like-like
-F

re: Star Wars thoughts

@tabitha@chitter.xyz Part of the whole thing about the prequels is that obi-wan isn't really good at his job but thinks he is, so it *could* be intentional
-F

@ziphi okay but which is better, bunny link or wolf link?
-F

@Draekos @fluxom_alt temirah is cute and i can absolutely understand wanting to be her
-F

@owashii@plush.city yes, but gamecube versions and it changed from playthrough to playthrough
-F

re: plush, goo

@Oneironott you can and in fact i encourage this
-F

@niss @owashii@plush.city general consensus is that it's probably unintended, they hard-coded ganon to take exactly 1 damage from literally every hitbox in the game except the master sword

since deku sticks do the same damage as the master sword, they also are free from the 1 damage limitation
-F

@DarkOverord pokemon games having only one save is also a tradition, though. like XD and Colosseum would only let you have one save file, you couldn't put two on the same memory card even if two could fit (gamecube memory cards came in lots of sizes)
-F

@manifold ooh, fancy stuff in there! that's significantly better, specs-wise (other than hard drives and monitor, which don't matter for performance), than our computer, which is quite capable
-F

@owashii@plush.city like the feature was planned from the beginning for the playstation, so the playstation controller port has a dedicated pin for powering the rumble motors with as much as 9 V, where the N64 rumble pak was limited to the same 3.3 V the controller otherwise runs at
-F

@owashii@plush.city i checked out of curiosity and there's nothing in the communications protocol to suggest that it was a feature planned when the system was released, the commands to turn on and off the rumble pak are the same general-purpose ones used to communicate with anything else plugged into the controller port, like a "controller pak" memory card or a transfer pak

i was thinking they might have had dedicated commands that would indicate they might have been planned in advance but no
-F

re: food but not food

@heatherhorns @Balina a refrigerator that looks like a chemistry lab's fridge, i would assume
-F

@manifold how's the specs and performance?

Also ooh, water cooled. Fancy!
