the English part is a no-brainer, of course; we only speak English. But why French, I wonder?

Show thread

I wonder why it is that everyone we know on here who regularly posts in multiple languages specifically posts in English and French.

What prompted this was mostly thinking about how, in our opinion, Zelda 1 has aged pretty well, and Zelda 2 even better, but the friend in question disagreed, and now I'm wondering about other people's thoughts on this subjective matter of retro games aging well or not!

Show thread

Thought prompted by a discussion with friends earlier today: What games from the NES era do you think aged the best? Which ones aged the worst?

I think we'd say Mario 3 probably aged the best, though I'm not sure about worst. Dragon Warrior is up there for worst, though; outstanding for its time, but a chore to play today.

We're not too familiar with Genesis/Megadrive games, or we'd say something about those too.

It always seemed weird to us that Link's wallet can hold a certain amount of money, rather than a certain number of gems. So the starting wallet in wind waker could hold 200 rupees, regardless of whether that was two hundred green rupees or ten (same-size!) red rupees, or one silver rupee

levels of scientific discovery:
- everything is magic
- I can control the fire!
- chemistry is complicated, but I understand it and use it for my benefit
- physics are complex, but I can further civilization by approaching it's understanding
- maths are impossible, but they get us closer to discoveried, maybe?
- everything is magic

an observation:

lots of words that mean "of infinite duration" start with e

endless
eternal
everlasting

"with all due respect" is a great phrase because you can say it to someone who doesn't deserve any respect (and thus all due respect is zero) and they'll read it as more respectful anyway. you don't need to lie, and you don't have someone angry at you for being disrespectful (okay maybe you do, I dunno)

I mean I do know what distinguishes metal (the class of elements) from rock (the type of compound) but the music genres are a bit less well defined
