There's a book series we remember reading years and years ago that I'd like to find again. Is anyone familiar with a YA novel about an alternate steampunk-ish Victorian society with space travel, where the main characters live on a space station and at some point it turns out their mom was a deity of some sort who created the solar system (but only the solar system)? Some kind of alien spiders come into it somewhere too.

so apparently there's a company, Lansdale Semiconductor, with the slogan "Today's technology, tomorrow.", and their entire business model is producing obsolete semiconductor devices.

because it was actually a negative thing; their system design meant they couldn't run the cpu at full design speed and had to reduce its speed most of the time, only running it at full speed in short bursts

we're really not used to power flickers/brownouts causing our computer to shut down, hah

we've used a laptop as our only computer for, well, basically ever, and as bad as this laptop's battery is (about 45 second battery life) it can survive a few seconds of a brownout without shutting down

Feeling like I ruined any chance of getting to know someone I kinda wanted to get to know... x.x

why isn't bismuth toxic, anyway? it's a heavy metal, right after things like lead, mercury, and thallium, yet it is perfectly safe, despite the fact that (afawk) nothing uses it in any biochemical manner

It's always odd to be reminded that some countries don't have a symbol for their currency. And even odder to realize just how many currencies can share the same symbol; the USD, CAD, AUD, Singaporean dollar, Taiwanese dollar, Hong Kong dollar, Brazilian real, and probably other currencies too all use the $ symbol. (to be fair, some of them use other letters in combination; one Brazilian real is written R$1, for example)
