venting, utilities stuff, very annoyed

very frustrated at centurylink now

they advertise a 940 megabit symmetric plan for $65/mo, or 100 megabit symmetric for $50/mo, if i try to get it by their main website

but the apartment complex has a contract with them that apparently locks us into paying $80/mo if we want 1 gigabit symmetric, or $60/mo for 100/50

why

why the *fuck* can we not get the cheaper version of the same plan solely because the only apartment complex in the area with openings has some kind of deal with them
-F

question about apartment logistics and utilities (in oregon specifically)

what is a good price for internet service anyway? Is Centurylink better, or is Bend Broadband the way to go? The stuff they say suggest centurylink is better, they give symmetric service and seem slightly cheaper

the prospect of having a job and living situation where we don't spend 70% of our monthly income on rent is a strange and alien feeling

why do people not read profiles before follow-requesting?? it's *basic social etiquette*

@Duskhorn Hi, did you read our profile before sending that follow request?

this is just a random realization i got while watching a numberphile video that mentions how the sum of the reciprocals of all numbers that don't contain a 7 in their decimal expansion (or that don't contain a 0, or a 1, etc) converges, which means they're less numerous than the primes since the sum of the reciprocals of the primes diverges
-F

saying that the sum of the reciprocals of numbers in some infinite set converges is essentially saying that the numbers get bigger faster than they get numerous

there's a surprising amount of mathematics that's just like, "all the experts think this is true but no one has figured out any way to prove it's true yet"

Any Scots language speakers out there? Scots Wikipedia needs you. It needs a bit of a clean up after one of the major maintainers turned out to not speak fluent Scots, like at all. @PolyglotMeetup remembering the Edinburgh Language even in February I know there are folk out there

for european people who don't realize just what across the country means here, imagine moving from Madrid to Kiev, or Lisbon to Bucharest, or Edinburgh to Helsinki, or Athens to Moscow

these are all approximately the same distance as the one we're about to move
