if they're called vegetables, why do you never see anyone veget them?
-F

why, you might wonder? it's a chemystery

okay actually it's just because copper nitrate isn't soluble in nitric acid so it forms a protective layer, but it dissolves easily in water, so having 32% water helps a lot

i just wanted to use the word chemystery

we always found it really neat that pure nitric acid can't dissolve copper, but 68% nitric acid can

has anyone else here ever heard of the game ШП (ShP)?

it's a very weird game, you're presented with a very poorly designed UI and given no instructions or any hints as to what your goal is

also the entire thing is in russian, and it's intended for people who don't speak russian

the idea is that it's like trying to make unlocalized foreign software do what you want it to

?

source measure units are perhaps the least helpfully named lab equipment
-F

actually it's Vageux-Vardette

french words have -eaux so often i misread it
-F

anyone here know French?

there's a location in this video game we're playing called Vageaux-Vardette and I'm curious what, if anything, that means. It looks French.

i feel like there's a joke somewhere in the word bromine: "bro-mine"
-F

why is luminol called that

it's not an alcohol
-F

anyone else think it's odd how Ys only features in three of the like ten Ys games
-F

we got a faux fur throw blanket because it was the first one we found at the store and it's getting cold here

it's unexpectedly affirming to have? like, reach down and feel fur.......

-F

had a thought that seems like a @kobi_lacroix character: one of those super fluffy dogs who're like 90% fluff, except this one is 100% fluff, you try to find the surface under all that fur and before you know it your hand is sticking straight through them
-F

Apparently a 52% solution of potassium formate in water has a freezing point of -60°C, which is really impressive honestly
-F

i guess this is more spoilers for the silmarillion sorta, i don't know if it's ever mentioned in the lord of the rings
-F

lord of the rings spoilers maybe sorta?

i wonder when it was that tolkien decided that the wizards weren't mortal. Did he envision gandalf as a very knowledgeable human while writing the hobbit, or did he have it pinned down even then that he was a maia?
