fun hearth fact: when we were little, we were very confused about how you could fit ten whole cents in a dime, but you could only manage to fit one into a penny, a larger coin, and you needed to go up to a nickel if you wanted to squeeze five into there

yes, we did actually think that a cent was a thing that was inside the coin

i think our real weak point in writing is that we hit a point where just... there's no obvious way to segue to the next point

we might have lots of ideas for things to happen later but how do you *get* to later

an idea we had a long time ago but never did anything with was the idea of a group of different (maybe *very* different) universes with no connection between them other than the fact that everyone exists in all of them simultaneously, fully aware and in control of all their different bodies (in very different shapes and species!) across several dozen universes, some of which may even have different laws of physics

jarritos is a nice brand of soda because like

it's super cheap as bottled soda goes (not as cheap as 12-packs though) at like 70~80¢ a bottle

and it has lots of flavors that you can't really get anywhere else, like tamarind or lime (*not* lemon-lime, that's different)

they also use real sugar which is probably healthier, but we can't taste a difference between cane sugar and HFCS

we got a couple of fancy sodas last time we went to the grocery store because they had a sale on everything in the "craft sodas" section

in addition to a couple of interesting things we hadn't tried before, we also got two bottles of tamarind jarritos because it's just really good okay

tamarind soda is tasty

Why do elementary schools and children's educational tv and such, at least in the US, always seem to use "cat" vs "dog" as an example of opposites?

Or is that some kind of false memory?

this method has been used in a number of attempts to pin down where language families originated, but that's generally Pretty Hard due to the sheer amount of additional influences over thousands of years

something i think is really neat is that you can kind of determine where a language originated by looking at where the dialects are most diverse

like in the US and the UK we both speak varieties of English, but whereas you may find very similar dialects across broad regions of the US, you may get cases in the UK where two towns less than twenty miles apart can barely understand each other

fun fact: the coldest place in the universe is, in all likelihood, on earth

this is not just a joke about cold weather; the coldest anywhere else in the universe ever gets is approximately 3 K, because that's the temperature of the cosmic microwave background radiation

meanwhile on earth, laboratories studying Quantum routinely chill things to very low temperatures with cryocoolers, some of which get to fractions of a millikelvin

when you look at standard mains electrical plugs, i kind of feel like the British ones are undeniably the best, they just have every safety feature you could want

except for the fact that they will always rest prongs-up on the floor and they're probably the only thing that hurts more to step on than a lego
