to be fair the thumbnail also contains a picture of something we didn't recognise at first glance, so that could be what they're trying to draw people in with

but looking at it closer it appears to be slices of some kind of large citrus fruit with the rind removed, possibly a particularly large grapefruit

weird findings in youtube recommendations: a video titled "15 exotic fruits you won't believe exist" where the thumbnail is... someone holding a dragonfruit

i'm pretty sure i believe dragonfruit exists, internet person. we can get them at our local grocery store

as it turns out, the process of forming an oxide on silicon carbide (an essential step in making a MOSFET) also just so happens to selectively worsen the properties of the silicon carbide in exactly the part of the transistor that happens to be most sensitive to them

not sure what to tag this as, people being anti-science about new-agey stuff

we just saw a comment on a video about piezoelectricity where someone was hypothesizing about where the whole healing-crystal belief may have originated, and a few other people replying to it

one of the replies was someone following a pattern we've seen in a lot of proponents of this kind of stuff? where they start by demeaning the people they're talking to (calling them "human lemmings" in this case), use lots of ellipses in their text, and repeatedly express their condescending pity for people being "brainwashed" by science (here, every other sentence had "[sentence]... so sad..... [more sentence]")

i have to wonder what people are trying to accomplish with that kind of stuff. do they think that's going to convince people that they're right? or do they just want to feel like they're somehow superior??

I'm not really going anywhere with this we've just seen that same pattern a number of times and i'm curious where it comes from

poll results so far spoilers re: our answer

so far it looks like the majority of people agree with us on this, but there's sufficient disagreement that this phrasing should probably be avoided in favor of something more unambiguous

our answer

we think of words like "smaller" or "larger" in the context of numbers to refer to the magnitude of the number, not absolute directions on a number line
