I wonder why FFX worked and was a success, when the just-as-linear FFXIII is widely regarded as a bad game. Maybe XIII had too complicated a battle system?

I like how final fantasy X, despite not using prerendered backgrounds, uses fixed camera angles and choppy background animations to mimic what the prerendered backgrounds of FFs VII-IX looked like.
