thought: character creator screen with a bunch of sliders, labelled with things that are normally pretty discrete like "species", "number of eyes", "language", as well as things that just don't make any sense as character traits at all, like "duration", "material", "rpm" (all ranging from 0 to 32000 in increments of 0.125)

it is only a single note that we need so I tried to do it with dpcm but it can't be loud enough

it's a long shot but does anyone have some experience getting bells to sound right in famitracker without using vrc7

status update: now considering opening MATLAB to run some code to generate a sequence of 64- or 32-sample 163 waveforms that closely approximates the bell sound

still the 163 is very... detailed, to the point that I find myself opening up reference audio in audacity to try to make a 1:1 copy of the waveform

the Namco 163 is looking promising, after a failure to make anything work with the VRC6 and a complete lack of understanding of the 5B

status: trying and failing to get a good semblance of a tubular bell in some Famicom sound chip other than the VRC7

so it seems that our new computer can actually record video from its screen without messing something up, unlike the old computer

perhaps we'll make recordings of our Famitracker compositions and post them to...... something? Mastodon certainly won't like me uploading a sixty-megabyte video
