self-negativity

feeling kinda, bad about how non-confrontational we are

we can never seem to commit too much to anything out of a fear of losing friendships or something

i wonder how much of our opinions are truly our own and how much are "this opinion will get us into the fewest arguments with people"

I really don't know

kinda -

sometimes i get thinking that, there are probably a lot of people out there who have a very negative opinion of us and i don't like that but there's not really anything we can do about it

@Frinkeldoodle (easier to us, that is. there are way fewer things that can go wrong when you work at a low level and don't have to worry about things like memory segmentation and operating systems getting in your way)

@Frinkeldoodle when necessary, yes. assembly is way easier than high level languages because one instruction is one instruction and the compiler doesn't do anything weird

but also we try to avoid using any sort of processor at all when we can. much easier that way.

I feel like we're really in a minority of electrical engineers who want to just avoid coding if at all possible, we try to design our circuits around not having any sort of processor in them at all

one of the ridiculous nitrogen ones like azidoazide azide or pentazene pentazolate would probably be the most terrifying-sounding ones in general but the former of those has no industrial use (it explodes when you look at it funny) and the latter has never been successfully synthesized in the first place

Show thread

mercury cadmium telluride is probably the most terrifying-sounding chemical that I can immediately name an industrial use for

the existence of bees and beetles implies that there should also be an insect called a tle.

working on silicon-level design seems like such a fascinating topic

especially integrating a lot of things into one chip, like making a microcontroller out of a microprocessor

(the story being about being trans is also a good thing! but we have a lot of those, we don't have a lot of stories that portray it as something that other people can do too though, things that show it as a normal thing to question one's gender, not something that just main characters do but something npcs can do too)

Show thread

there should be more stories that are not specifically about being trans that involve characters--minor or major, but not main characters--whose gender changes through the story

(I say not main characters because if a main character realized they were trans partway through, that kind of makes at least part of the story about being trans)

and i don't mean some kind of magic transformation thing, I mean they change their presentation and pronouns and name and stuff

it sounds like i did but it was kind of a misunderstanding and i think it's probably going to be okay? still high anxiety though it's getting lower

Show thread

worried I might have upset a very close friend and not sure if they're talking about me but also really really not wanting to lose that friendship

Show thread

(it is currently apple season and so the grocery stores have lots of (non-alcoholic) apple cider in stock and it is very good, we got a gallon of it last time we went to the store)

Show thread

I keep wanting to talk about how apple cider is good and stuff but now that we know that outside the US, "apple cider" means an alcoholic drink, i'm a lot less comfortable doing so because we don't drink alcohol and never want to and don't want people thinking we are

random thought: are there any non-human animals with material culture of any sort? I want to say no but there're sometimes some surprising things from corvids and apes

(however if you go around saying that anything you don't understand is Evil then you should probably stop that too)
