neat thing in video games:
when a random mook who happens to show up several times has actual character development

see for example, king bulblin in twilight princess; a miniboss you fight a few times, doesn't even speak a word or have any real story significance, but each time you fight him you can see that he respects link as an adversary more, and by the end of the game actually just *gives* link a key in a sort of respectful "you are the superior fighter here, I concede defeat"

we really do feel like people who don't like math just haven't found the sort of math that they mesh well with yet

actually, this applies for solar eclipses too, and the two cycles are offset by exactly half of a cycle (so nine years and 5⅔ days after a lunar eclipse, there will be a solar one, and vice versa)

it's only an approximation, of course, but it's a pretty accurate one

some kid comes and helps you collect all your escaped chickens--give them an empty bottle

some kid saves your sister's life by bringing her a healing potion you made--let them keep the bottle the potion was in, that's an adequate reward

some kid helps you get back the fragments of your soul that you sold to a bunch of ghosts in exchange for immense riches? a bottle is a good reward for that, it's not like you're literally made of money or anything oh wait you are

the legend of zelda games are weird in that empty bottles are seen as a highly valuable thing

i kind of wonder what technology was lost that we never rediscovered

not that i think they had some ancient supertechnology, more just, what tools did they have that accomplish tasks we do today in very different ways

because *wow* the antikythera mechanism is complicated and it involves manufacturing technology that wouldn't be rediscovered for over a millennium

you ever just think about how much technology must have been lost between the making of the antikythera mechanism and medieval times

Also feeling very bemused about the existence of the sporadic groups, again.
