the fact that people are taught in school that english has five vowels is kind of ridiculous

we have (in general american):
- æ in cat
- ɑ in palm
- ɔ in thought
- ɪ in kit
- ε in dress
- ʌ in strut
- ʊ in foot
- i in fleece
- u in goose
- ə in comma (second vowel)

and that's just the monophthongs

concept: noodledragon hydra who's actually three-bodied, and just likes to keep their bodies braided together

good morning friends

we're tired and don't want to go to work in two hours

in Tales of Arise, the newest one, the spellcaster character doesn't even say the name of the spell like they usually do in this situation, just saying "blah blah blah, magic!" in this really... dismissive/bored/just-get-it-over-with tone

which is especially silly considering that at one point in the game they talk about how completely essential the incantation is for making the spell work right

but since the casting time isn't constant (various stats and skills and equipment could speed it up), sometimes the incantation would get cut off.

starting with Tales of Vesperia, if you could get the spell casting time too short for the full incantation to play, the character instead just says "blah blah blah" in place of the incantation and it's really kind of hilarious

the Tales series of jrpgs has always had magic work on a timed system, where your spellcasters have to spend x amount of time standing stationary casting the spell before it actually does anything

basically as soon as full voice lines were possible, each spell got its own incantation that was spoken during this casting time

how the fuck did anyone cook eggs before they invented nonstick pans

the Tales series is probably the only JRPG series in which you could ever have a boss with 200k hp when your attacks do about 60~70 damage

the word "cattycorner" is really weird to us because like

it's a word that apparently everyone except us used all the time??? when we had never heard of it until seeing people mention it???
-F

bonus points if it's (vaguely based on) one of
- avian
- canine
- dragon
- mustelid (but we've never seen this done in a game)

semi related, but let me introduce you to the term tsundoku if you have not yet been acquainted.

"Tsundoku (Japanese: 積ん読) is acquiring reading materials but letting them pile up in one's home without reading them"

lagoon (snes) spoilers, in case anyone actually cares

like the story starts out with "demons are attacking because the water's muddy" and then that basically never gets mentioned again

just remembered that lagoon existed and really, what even was that game

we got some trash taken out and that is good

we needed to do that for a while

there's still more to do but we're trying to learn that doing some of a thing is better than doing none of a thing
