last wednesday's xkcd is just us https://xkcd.com/2621/
like all the famous people we do know, we know for weird reasons
like, apparently steward copeland was part of a really popular musical group but we know him as the guy who composed spyro's soundtrack
and one of the examples in the comic itself--we know david bowie as the guy from labyrinth, but i know he was a really popular musician too

jrpgs were still really big in that time period, the psx and ps2 had a ton, so it's not just a lack of games
did nintendo have policies at the time that limited them somehow? i know tthey were not on good terms with squaresoft at the time

considering that the original reason given for vampires not having a reflection and not showing up in photographs was because of the use of silver for mirrors and photographic film at the time, i imagine modern vampires would have reflections (mirrors these days are made with aluminum as a backing, as it's substantially cheaper and doesn't tarnish) and would show up in photographs (image sensors contain a negligible amount of silver)

has anyone on here played the game "what the golf"? or just good with computers? we got it a while ago and just tried it today and it looks fun but every time you beat a level there's a golf clap sound effect that is *deeply* unpleasant to us (misophonia) and i would really like it if someone could tell us how to turn that off without also turning off every other sound effect

i like how we're getting really good, usable open-source programs for even really niche things these days
kicad is the big example that comes to mind, a mostly-full-featured (except for pad stacks and net ties, please hurry and add those) EDA suite, but also krita, and we're seeing some friends talk about a game boy SDK thing called gb studio that is apparently looking promising

concept for a bit thing that i don't think we'd do but has promise:
True Facts from a More Interesting World
where it's all just, things that are not true but it'd sure be interesting if they were
like "the French language was a sixth-century practical joke that got way out of hand" or something like that
