IGBTs really suck for what they're used for

they're really slow and have really high on-state loss

youtube.com/watch?v=61Vyi3Gi5d this uses a neat way to emulate the sound of a bass guitar (starting about 2 minutes in)

every note is preceded by like 1 frame of noise, which gives a feeling of like, fingers rubbing against the string before it's properly plucked

how exactly does peter piper pick a peck of pickled peppers

were they pickled while still on the vine or something? how did they get pickled
-F

apparently medieval people thought that peasants ate poor-quality food because 1) they preferred it and 2) high quality food would be literally poisonous to them

whee, classism

*every* time we want to check out a new twitch streamer, *every* time, they have that setting on that means we have to give twitch our phone number before we're allowed to say anything

last wednesday's xkcd is just us xkcd.com/2621/

like all the famous people we do know, we know for weird reasons

like, apparently steward copeland was part of a really popular musical group but we know him as the guy who composed spyro's soundtrack

and one of the examples in the comic itself--we know david bowie as the guy from labyrinth, but i know he was a really popular musician too

jrpgs were still really big in that time period, the psx and ps2 had a ton, so it's not just a lack of games

did nintendo have policies at the time that limited them somehow? i know tthey were not on good terms with squaresoft at the time

why are there so few rpgs on the gamecube and n64

the wii didn't have a lot either but it feels like it had at least a few dozen, pretty sure the gcn and n64 had less than ten each. maybe less than ten combined

it's so weird to us to go to the pharmacy and see omron-branded medical equipment

apparently that's their main business but we know them for making really good electromechanical relays, they're like the #1 or #2 brand of those along with TE

Everything is a UFO if you're really bad at identifying things but really good at throwing them.

considering that the original reason given for vampires not having a reflection and not showing up in photographs was because of the use of silver for mirrors and photographic film at the time, i imagine modern vampires would have reflections (mirrors these days are made with aluminum as a backing, as it's substantially cheaper and doesn't tarnish) and would show up in photographs (image sensors contain a negligible amount of silver)
