The three types of mistranslation:

- The "Actually that one's cooler", as in Homunculus -> Holmcross in Wild Arms (referring to a type of ancient humanoid robot)
- The "I see where you were going but that's kind of hilarious", as in Solomon -> Salmon in Ys II's Palace of Salmon
- The "How the fuck", as in Ragnarok -> Kangaroo in Tales of Phantasia

seeing people complain about "mastodon" (meaning fedi) due to a *complete* misunderstanding of anything to do with it just feels, i don't know

makes me sad people don't want to give this platform a chance. like we wouldn't be who we are today without this place and these people and it feels bad seeing people not even make the effort

but also maybe it should be easier? maybe there are problems in explaining what feels obvious to us since we've been here since what, 2017? and have seen all the stuff that resulted in things being how they are today

I know it's probably because we don't look at the federated timeline and only post unlisted but, we have seen very few new people and interacted with even fewer

we just had a ninety minute power outage that started less than *two minutes* after the part of the remote meeting they needed us for ended

that was good timing. i mean i still don't like not having power when it's freezing out but it would have been even more of a problem if it had happened earlier

context re: out of context history

it makes sense in context

someone thought Antiochus was dead and used that as an excuse to try to oust a religious authority that Antiochus had instated and who was rumored to be corrupt (though it's hard to say whether he actually was, given this all happened over 2000 years ago; this is about the Maccabean revolt)

so when Antiochus heard about this and responded, it was relevant to say that they were wrong about him being dead

out of context history

"Hearing this, Antiochus, who was not dead, misinterpreted this factional infighting as [...]"

I like the idea of just randomly reassuring your readers that the people you're talking about were not, at the time, zombies

fun fact: there's a star about twice as massive as the sun that spins at *716 Hz*
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSR_J174

the sun spins around once every 25-30 days (depending on latitude), for reference. this pulsar is spinning at 1.7×10⁹ times the speed of the sun

i really hate how our adhd and general difficulty doing things when there's even the slightest barrier to them tends to lead to missing out on time limited things
