just, fucking, accept people for who they are

is that too much to ask??

as long as someone isn't hurting anyone with who they are, why does it affect you negatively, if they're happy?

Some of the hardest thing to say is "I was wrong" or "you're right". Especially in a hardpressed situation.

That's why you can practice it in situations with lower stakes, and then eventually it'll be easier to say even in the most virulent of situations.

read about abuse. learn how it works. there are patterns to it. you'll start recognizing it at all levels, from your own inner critic, your family and friends, your community, all the way up to government policy and international relations. it will make a lot of things make more sense

same goes for trauma, read up on it. you'll be that much better equipped to support your friends through hard times
