It represents a refusal to play by society's rules in the face of massive intersectional oppression, which is a whole lotta meaning packed into just five letters.

I don't think "gay" is a bad word. It's just too narrow for me, it doesn't leave room for my genderqueerness, and it's not radical enough. Plus, if I'm being honest, because this is the kind of queer I am: It's just not nearly as stylish, sexy and cool as "queer" is to me.

Show thread

To me, "queer" means so much more than simply "LGBTQ+". It also carries with it the radical legacy of our history in a way that a word like "gay" just never could for me.

I'm not just gay. I'm queer, because I refuse to fit in, I refuse to conform, and I will fight oppression.

@glitter If Freyja was still here, she'd agree pretty hard. She was gray ace, and very pro-kink.

I am pro-kink too, but I am pan lesbian, so shrugs

Plurality | Gender Identiry |

It's also interesting to see how Alyssa's gender identity is shaped by her world, because the whole idea of being gender casual is something that doesn't happen often in this world, particularly because of how often we had to fight for our own existence, both in terms of being alive, and recognized as our authentic selves.

Had Alyssa been raised in this world, she'd be gender-fluid, which tracks, since being gender casual is a form of fluidity.

Hey, you know this is something you have in common with Aluxes, Alyssa.

Alyssa: That appears to be the case. This makes a lot of sense considering xe was a part of Freyja before fae split.

@dark_soil I've always known that authority is an obstacle to justice

bullying ment, ableism

@dark_soil if anything, I regret not stabbing him in the hands or his stupid face with a pencil when he first decided to pick on me. I held myself back, knowing that teachers look down on us taking matters into our own hands.

Rewatching Tron: Uprising for the aesthetic. They really want you to sympathize with Commander Paige as some kind of good cop, but seriously, how does she not see all the red flags among her peers and especially her boss?
She's a bad cop by reason of incompetence. She's on the side of a fascist state who supplies random violence and still tells herself this is somehow bringing "order" to the Grid.

bullying ment, bigotry

@dark_soil and that's exactly the kind of socialization school is meant to achieve, it seems 😬 I'd have been so proud if you were my kid or student :blobcatheart:
