121 firefighters died in the collapse of the second tower. police helicopters circling above noticed that the steel support beams were on the verge of collapse and radioed it back to the cops in charge of the response that everyone should be evacuated because the tower was gonna just give out

and those cops never told the firefighters because cops hate firefighters.

Children are also something that's constantly used to target marginalized people and communities. So these comments about LJs kid are so clearly part of that legacy.

Even if this was a first offense it shouldn't matter, because no one who's a completely innocent person goes to this level of harassment on their first try.
It's just a choice to not see it, or not have anyone in your community actually notice how they behave, which is also a problem.

This is not a slap on the wrist worthy behavior.

I recommend a #fediblock of tech.lgbt or at least silence with reports rejected, which is what rage.love currently has in place with suspension being considered. There is an active user on the instance who has abused the report system to send harassing messages that, among other things, concern-trolled about the reported user's young child. You are free to look at the screenshots to decide for yourself on the behavior.

To their credit, tech.lgbt mods have been candid about their process--this user has been warned about their behavior, which they are said to have fully acknowledged as wrong, and will be watched more closely in the future.

Nevertheless, the mods have chosen to retain the user who remains active on the instance. Seeing how the same user or any other could reoffend under tech.lgbt's moderation stance, I recommend at least limiting contact.

Apologies for talking fedi meta, but I do have two pieces of advice from being a very long-term user on this platform, relating to recent events:

1) know your instance admin. Get to know them. Know their opinions. Know how they handle things.

2) Always, *always* have a backup alt somewhere. You don't know when an instance will close down, or when you'll feel like you might need to hop to another one.

Trust me. These are good lessons to learn.
