From a still unclear start date until October 2018, many English-language instances had their public posts scraped, without consent and without seeking consent, by a Milan University student for the purpose of a paper which, maliciously or not, misrepresents the interest of the content warning feature present on Mastodon and other fediverse software.

donphan.social has been targeted and 3220 public posts from here are present in the dataset.

The University has removed the accessibility of the dataset, but some people have it saved so it's not entirely gone from the internet.

There's a dangerous trend of anti-intellectualism and deliberate ignorance. It isn't the source of every problem but it sure as fuck needs to have something done about it. This is why I think it's so important for things to be explained for normies without jargon in ways they can understand. Otherwise, someone else will give them the wrong explanation... and it's that much harder to deprogram.

This is why education is important too. Just not the way we educate our children right now, which is as dull and boring as possible, and overworks them for no reason.

You know what drives innovation? Not profit motive, but sharing information and techniques. Capitalism promotes trade secrets and preventing other people from using and building on your work. It's geared toward a kind of innovation, the kind that maximizes profits. But for everything else, sharing is far and away more effective.
