Hey, I'm a photographer and I make music. I don't make any money from my creative efforts and have been relying on my minimum wage job to be able to keep myself going and pay rent.
I promise I'm job hunting but the rejection letters are starting to pile up enough to where I'm getting worried. I really don't want to have to sell my camera or what little music equipment I have as that is all that keeps me sane.

Secret music cassettes you pass on like a gift, intended to remain obscure and unmarketable. A reward for embracing the sentimentality of physical music keepsakes.

the core idea behind money is that nobody would press that button without incentive.
but like...we fucking completely would. We're tribal animals. imagine living without providing ANYTHING to anyone. We get hobbies in which we perform labor for nobody's benefit, but for the simple satisfaction of completing interesting labor. How are you profiting off that model plane?
the threat of NOT having money is enough to admonish those natural impulses.

money is just like, assurance of inequality.
it's like "how many equality points did you get?"
'well i'm no "die in absurd luxury" equal, but i'm at least a '"allowed to avoid starvation" equal.'

imagine if we completely figured out how to distribute medicine. like, all that needs to be done is someone pressing a button, and you'd get a dose.
our society structure completely wouldn't allow that.
that person needs to be getting paid, because their life is dependent on money.
but if it weren't - if that person's survival would be assured either way - you don't think they would press that button? Someone needs to be profiting if a massive transaction is occurring

somebody was so passionate about you being able to download music, that they made the effort to make it accessible.
this is completely against the philosophy that capitalism is based on. "I only do things for you, for a reason"
you can plainly see that there's enough motivation to do the labor, to the point of breaking the law and murky ethics
piracy is proof that money makes a society worse. we found a solution to a problem but can't use it because it violates the idea of money

like, when you think about it, there's always a middleman between you and stolen music. that pathway that seems so direct still had to be created. there's someone hosting the file you download.
in other words, that's a distributor. it's a *free* distributor that isn't concerned with anyone getting paid.

music piracy is like the closest thing to a utopia that we can experience.
that's completely free access to art and a limitless range of people who have access to your own art
it's only when you worry about everything else ("how can i support myself if i'm not getting paid for art i'm spending time on") when there's an actual problem. i mean, it's a considerable one, but it's one born from our currency-based society. at its core, it's a direct link between art and an audience
