setting a very firm boundary
This has been such a problem lately that I have to say something about it.
We've had some interpersonal issues with folks that resulted in us blocking them. Sometimes we do it quietly and move on, sometimes we mention that a boundary is crossed, it's not all that consistent.
But what has been consistent is that some folks feel it necessary to publicly call us out for it, talking to us as if we're going to see it.
Regardless of circumstances, regardless of whether we made a mistake in blocking you, the moment you make a public callout about it, you have irreversibly broken our ability to trust you.
What you have done is made a personal issue public, opened the doors for us to be harassed and dogpiled (which has happened multiple times) and we can no longer trust you to keep personal things personal.
We don't have a choice in this, there are some former friends who have done this that we wanted to try to apologize to, or maybe see if we could reverse a mistake. But that trust is gone, and it's not coming back.
tl;dr: don't publicly call us out for blocking you or we'll never be able to trust you again.
On the recommendation of some cool fedi animal-people I installed the Unhook extension that removes everything from YouTube that isn't your subscriptions.
I have also been using the SponsorBlock extension that automatically skips sponsored content segments for more than a year.
And, of course, we all know about ad blockers.
I love how with a little bit of curiosity you can completely take a knife to the unwholesome systems of people who really don't have your best interests at heart.
I dislike everything about this sentence. I don't like subscription models.
