Specifically, $1.9mm seems like the largest number I’ve heard so far on what foreign actors spent on influence in the US in 2016. Twitter likes money, so I can’t imagine them making this decision out of the good will of their hearts.
So this is both a large number and anomalous for Twitter, and I’m curious what it means.
@Metaph@scalie.business @Aradia@mastodon.social Yeah, I wrote more about my install experience earlier in my timeline, separate thread. I got the APK to work on Android, but Apple is a bit more restrictive by demanding payment info that works in Australia.
Interestingly, US Google Play payments are compatible with the game’s microtransactions. I’ve only spent $1 for the game’s intro pack (which wasn’t required to progress), but it’s there and works.

The new game blunts the impact of microtransactions somewhat by giving you ~$10 of its virtual currency for free very early on. So, I have everything I want.
It certainly is very cute. The remainder of the experience is more akin to Flight Rising than Animal Crossing (deep inventory management puzzle, wide selection of cosmetics), which means it'll probably do well.

Also, micropayments on the Android build work with US Google Play. Also, literally everything has a timer now. Also, they expect ~$5-10 apiece to unlock each current limited time item. Huh.
I probably won’t get in too deeply, because the timer management seems difficult to impossible while also having real world responsibilities (unlike the main series’ once per day). And even cold hard cash doesn’t improve that.
But, at least they finally released this thing!

Also, not posting the link because Nintendo is sure to take it down and send a flurry of cease-and-desist letters. But The Next Web is currently linking the Australian Apple App Store link and current Android APK, with instructions, for the interested.
I couldn’t get the iOS details to work, because Apple demands a regional payment provider, and I didn’t have the patience to use the gift card workaround. So I went with the Android version instead.

Apparently, Nintendo botched region locking for Australia, so the new Animal Crossing game is “available” for Australian accounts and in APK form.
Giving it a try on my Android device, it is cute! And impressive that they ported the ACNL experience to mobile using Unity.
Though, I still feel conflicted about it having micropayments. At least Nintendo decided to use Tom Nook to take real money. It just seems appropriate.

I used to be much more open and outgoing with people, and I kind of miss that. I haven’t been for awhile, because of crippling anxiety over interpersonal politics, both from birdsite and from people in the past that lied to me on a regular basis.
Thankfully that’s done now. But ow, my trust in people.
I’m trying to get better at this. It’s probably going to take awhile. But, I’m sincerely doing my best!
Cuphead, mild spoiler
I don’t even play Cuphead, and I think Grim Matchstick is an absolute cutie.
(Though, despite the aforementioned prolific output in July, this is still my hobby on top of full-time job. So the number of slots would be limited.)
While I mentioned this awhile ago on birdsite, I should point out here that I make 3D art using Sculptris and Blender. I'm reasonably efficient at it, too.

There are times I wish I could scrub “understands infosec” from my character sheet for social reasons.
I have the common geek social trait where, if I understand a topic well, I will gush about it without realizing. Not a problem in itself.
Except infosec topics overlap heavily with pol right now. Leading to my going paragraphs in before I realize: “Wow, this is really cool! Wow, this is really terrible! Abort, abort!”
I might need to switch focuses on my character sheet.

I’ve been keeping bird site’s mobile app in notification-only mode for the past 10 days. Despite my dismissing “News for you” to show less often, today they happily did it again, this time for that man and Iran.
Fuck you, Twitter. I want to understand the world around me, subscribe to artists I like, and get relevant notifications, not be kept in a state of apoplectic anxiety for your shareholder value. Thanks.
It goes without saying I’ll probably not go back anytime soon.

Tonight, I learned that baked delicata squash is easy to make, inexpensive (~$2 at PCC), and really really really good.
I’m going to buy a few more of them to see how well they work with culinary experiments and recipes out of the Veganomicon.
