Re the latest kerfluffle; having been around c level execs and venture capitalists whom other leftists would automatically consider monsters, but whom I considered very charismatic, I’m constantly surprised by how completely unpleasant Musk is for his wealth and authority. I suspect there’s a batch of business types who DO think that’s a charismatic executive style, similar to how I literally can’t conceive of Trump’s constant scowling as appealing to anyone.

@Chip_Unicorn which I mean makes sense, because every genre out there is going to play with some of the same ideas.

I think it’s true that you form impressions of what you like in childhood, but those impressions are fairly generalized and biased by nostalgia/familiarity. F’rex, you probably won’t find Boomers listening to Green Day, because they’re unfamiliar, although Green Day does a lot of the same stuff as The Beach Boys.

@Chip_Unicorn I’ve been trying to explore ever since I left home and therefore had options. I’ve been finding that my consistent taste reflects broad characterizations (heavily instrumental, usually faster paced) from childhood more than specifics, so I suspect *that’s* a more accurate appraisal of how someone likes stuff they grew up with as they age.
