holy FUCK Rachid Taha's first album is so fucking GOOD
but then you switch out to Tinariwen and it's like leaving a big party to look at the stars so far away from that party that the city's just a faint glow in the sky
Mdou Moctar winds up being a pretty good compromise between the two

@frost I’m not mad at you, fwiw!
@erin_kitsune welcome to SoCal!
@frost how big a difference is there really between all of us? We all need food and shelter, have hopes, fears and dreams. We’re all going to get old and die (me sooner than you, though). Gets into lack of duality, we simultaneously are the same while being very different in ways worth honoring.
@Kusimanse nobody gets Hamish unless they’re Scots. When I was working Ren Faire, my group was technically English only, but I insisted that I could use the name, because fuck it, it’s my actual name.
Last night while on the pot thumbing through Chodron I thought;
The Four Noble Truths are a spiritual equivalent to general relativity. If everything is transient, a lot is perception or preconception, and there’s no real barrier between us, then what IS real? There’s got to be a constant and that’s the constant.
@GraySpots Digital stuff is fucking amazing and I am waaay behind at it. Thing is if I take a sketchbook and pencils with me, I'm not worried about them getting stolen or dinged, and there's more area to work on than the tablets I own - that's why I keep doing analog stuff.
@Kusimanse Hamish.
My great grandfather apparently asked my parents on his death bed never to name a kid "Hermann." (You can imagine how happy he and his brother Adolph were when the obvious happened.) Apparently to Anglophile Jewish New Yorkers with no Scottish ancestry whatsoever, Hamish is an appropriate substitute. I've actually run into two other people with the name, a Scot and a Kiwi.

Ever since V I’ve had this idea for Indiana Jones VI. It’s now 1980 and a profoundly old Indy is the consultant for this movie Spielberg is making about him in 1936. He keeps grousing about how it didn’t happen that way while Marion tries to get him to take his blood pressure meds. And then something happens. I’m tempted to say a murder, or the Tunisia set winds up hitting actually significant Carthaginian ruins or w/e, but our hero must put on hat and leather jacket yet ANOTHER one last time.
Lots of random gunk, but some drawings and cooking talk too. Obsesses about DnD and related topics. Left-leaning/profoundly frustrated politics. Black lives matter; trans rights are human rights.
