sick

@hi_cial geez. I’m sorry and hope they actually can give an answer for what this is and some sort of help.

@frost someone pissed me off over on BlueSky about stuff I don't feel I can talk about and probably shouldn't have mentioned even obliquely, here.

@jk they give you all the free breadsticks you want. AND shuriken.

@Bwee awesome, would hang out with and read being completely silent, for a while.

re: Wrath of Khan related writing thoughts

@GoodNewsGreyShoes I really feel Ep IX is an *interesting* failure, one which I want to watch again, because it completely nails all the candy-floss aspects of Star Wars and yet there's nothing underneath it, there's nothing especially character/plot/storywise that the other movies had. My usual comparison is it's like having wonderful, flavorful icing on the stalest cheap loaf cake from Safeway. And if it tanks so badly/gets things so right, that's worth studying.

Wrath of Khan related writing thoughts

Listening to the Wrath of Khan soundtrack, I'm reminded of how nothing in this movie makes any sense when you think about it for 15 seconds, but it looks and feels so right that you buy it. This time, how Federation programs have a "backdoor;" reasonable, if not a mainstream concept in the early 80s, but Kirk only exploits it *after* they've otherwise written themselves into a corner. But there's all the other stuff; the parasite's life cycle which doesn't seem to depend on a predator like you'd think logical for something that really hampers a prey animal; the incredibly dangerous thing Spock winds up fixing, which is for some reason in a clear casing right in the middle of engineering; warships wading through space into broadside range like it's 1810. I think what's going on is that the writing hits the *exact* sweet spot of *possibility*. By comparison to say, Rise of Skywalker in which everything looks great, makes no sense if you think about it for 15 seconds, and yet it doesn't work.

On earth, 300 years ago, I was a prince. And I was funky.

they cut it from the theatrical release, but right before he beams down to the surface of Ceti Alpha V, there's an extreme close up of the phaser hanging at Checkov's hip, the same gun which he pulls on Kirk and which Kirk uses to destroy the parasitoid alien in Act III of The Wrath of Khan.

@robinhood cheer up, the only Jews in the series are either a single horrific stereotype, or some of the most important actors, depending on your POV

a secret government experiment to combine The Munsters, Gilligan's Island, and original Trek to create a show which has only ever existed as reruns, the ultimate rerun

"I could use the leftover shrimp and the leftover ham to make a big incredibly traffe omelette but thanks to lactose intolerance I don't have any real dairy products in the house" I think, answering the question "why DON'T I try to get into seminary and get ordained?"

the urge to scream about the usual stuff I have the urge to scream about, but since as usual it'd be 2 parts alienating to 3 parts un-noticed, it's practically not worth mentioning.

This project they have me on is deadly dull and monotonous and unfortunately like most assignments that are, there’s only one way to resolve how completely stultifying it is.

Come to furry fandom, we got dudes with more artistic abilities in their little fingers than I have in my entire body and also they make me look straight

I mean *everyone* mimics pushing the throttle quadrant forward while pulling back on the stick, then swapping hands so you can retract landing gear, tho not everyone puts the seat back and closes the canopy
