re: I'm not saying they're right, but I kinda understand a little. (CW: Shadowrun mechanics terminology, Dental health trauma, cancer mention)
@kelseyhusky read, acknowledged. Really hope it gets easier.
I’m reminded of how much I loathe political cartoonists even more than I detest journalists. Imagine being able to draw like that, and what you use it for is gross one sided takes on difficult shit if you’re not even more active in causing harm. Nearly all furry fetish porn is honorable and worthy by comparison.
I know there are some folks here at the intersection of trans and Jewish spaces, so I wanted to mention an upcoming thing I'm helping to host.
My husband and I are planning a small service in Seattle for the transgender day of remembrance, Nov 20. We're likely going to hold the service the evening of Nov 19, at the start of the Jewish day.
Details are still being finalized, but the plan is to say a few appropriate prayers, read the names of the dead, and say the mourner's kaddish. We'll also be sharing food afterward, because it feels weird to gather without doing that.
You do not need to be transgender or Jewish to attend, but this is explicitly a Jewish ceremony. There will be Hebrew (and transliteration) though we're not expecting everyone to read it. This is a queer space, so we use inclusive translations.
If you're interested in attending, please send a DM; it's likely to be at someone's home, so I won't share details publicly. If there's interest we might be able to arrange a livestream as well.
@rebe_gc @LilahTovMoon “that’s no moon™️”
my love of fantasy and TTRPGs mean I'm split about what's the best part of Conan the Barbarian;
* Conan's father telling him about the riddle of steel, full of world building and cultural richness OR
* the Atlantean Sword scene, full of mystery and wonder OR
* when the PCs successfully stealth in to capture the princess and then completely abandon their plan so they can set shit on fire and hurl big cauldrons of stew down the stairs etc
@Ylfingr $800-$1000 for a room or a studio sounds doable. It might be worthwhile to check for downsides (eg, right next to the loudest chunk of BART, in the middle of a food desert, etc).
There's taxes to consider, and also, apartments might have utilities separated out. My place, they roll the water/sewer bill into my exorbitant rent, but electricity is a separate bimonthly bill and internet is monthly.
I think applying for Target or something comparatively bleah couldn't hurt.
@anthracite doesn't hurt that he basically says she's a very wet lizard chick.
At least in Downward Spiral, the Dumped song is part of the ongoing parade of misery, as opposed to Pretty Hate Machine which starts out so fucking strong and then whoooo completely off the rails into every trans dyke's worst assumptions about cis men.
"can Democrats undo college campus branding and capture the working class" seriously, some of us have our lives on the line every time there are Republicans in office and it doesn't actually improve that much under Democrats, this is not the Bulldogs vs Tech game, so kindly fuck off to McMurdo Sound or somewhere.
@Daojoan just in case I was able to track down the original paper, https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0287101
through Dr. Wall-Scheffler's site at https://wallscheffler.wordpress.com/
@Ylfingr I fenced for a couple of years in high school and it quite literally may have saved my life, if I can help kids get that it'd be even better than working for a nonprofit. The last time I fenced anyone was 5 years ago but I won that match.
@frost not included, but THE thing about orcas is matriarchy - orcas are one of the few other species out there to experience menopause, but post-menopausal cows still basically direct where their pods go (and if you're an orca, by definition you're hunting). So this is REALLY exciting to me, because that means that pattern shows up elsewhere in social animals! Now I really really want to find this study and read it.
dude DUDE check this out https://www.npr.org/2023/06/28/1184894580/ancient-women-were-hunters-and-grandmas-were-the-most-skilled-ones-study-suggest
a straight up comparison between humans and orcas this is awesome
@Daojoan oh wow a straight up human analogy to orcas this is so COOOOOOOOL

Look around you, what do you see? Hyper herm skunktaurs. Muscle doberwomen. Fat samoyed furs wearing only very smelly socks. The very people we are trying to save. But most of these people do not want to be unplugged from the Matrix. Neo, were you paying attention or were you looking at that hyena in the prominently bulged red skirt?
Lots of random gunk, but some drawings and cooking talk too. Obsesses about DnD and related topics. Left-leaning/profoundly frustrated politics. Black lives matter; trans rights are human rights.
