@frost Maybe, and there's the death of Thor which is also in the Voluspa, where he strides 9 paces from the Midgard Serpent and then dies from its toxins. I just like this one because it reminds me of the Maya Angelou quote about how people will remember how you made them feel.

@GoodNewsGreyShoes The grade school classes separated us all out by class when we weren't at lunchtime or w/e, but they were pretty crap gifted classes anyway, I remember about four things from them and NONE of those are good. Also with being bussed to a different school some of the week, it meant I fit in at my normal school less. High school gifted classes by comparison didn't really take me out of the normal flow of the high school, which had its own dire bullshit.

@frost I mean the obvious one is "Cattle die, kinsmen die, I too shall die, but I know one thing that does not die, the good deeds of the dead." Havamal 78. You could probably shorten it to "Cattle die, kinsmen die, I too shall die" and there are enough Asatru around Berkeley that it'd be instantly recognized.

@GoodNewsGreyShoes I didn't, really. I was bussed to these gifted classes for two years before my Dad got transferred to Ft. McPherson, and Dekalb County is huge so the high school I went to had its own gifted program.

15 17 13 08 15 16 okay that's totally Paladin territory, what the hell, dnddiceroller.com/ ? I'll take it though.

fuck it, today's being shit, it's time for METALLICA'S BEST SONG.

@GoodNewsGreyShoes County's. They put everyone in the same place - developmentally disabled, gifted classes, any blind/deaf/mobility impaired kids. This is the same gifted program which convinced me I could never be a programmer.

a Metallica track except there's no actual lyrics, the entire thing is just James Hetfield going WHOA WHOA OH YEAAAH WHOOOOOAAAAAA

this reminds me, you know what I haven't done in a while?

okay, that's PROBABLY a Magic User

@GoodNewsGreyShoes I'm still uncomfortable sharing space with developmentally disabled folks because the county's response to needing a gifted program was bussing the gifted kids to the same school where they dumped any special needs program. And like everything else in that program, I was a genius, I was supposed to be able to handle that GREAT automatically.

oh BOY we're having THIS trigger again.

Thank you, Richmond County public school system.

by arching my back, crinkling my nose, sticking my tongue out a little and growling

also as a tangent from <strike>not especially subtle swipes from Prokofi</strike>James Horner soundtracks, I can potentially celebrate the life of the late great Roger Corman by rewatching Battle Beyond the Stars.

you know, The Wolfen is about a detective in NYC in the 70s though the movie dates from 1981

the entire Shaft trilogy happens in NYC in the 70s

you can see where I'm going with this right?

holy fuck the Trader Joe's harissa actually packs an okay punch

What if cereal mascots are different in other universes such that Rice Krispies got the nautical mascots (Captains Crispy?) and Captain Crunch were elf themed instead?

so the other day I took beef and sausages out of the 'fridge and then the weekend featured two big "this is your meal today" meals, so to use it all up I cooked the sausage (and some other stuff) with black beans, faked cumin beef with noodles, and rubbed/broiled the remaining steak to have around. All of the squash at the store was pricey, so I bought and roasted sweet potatoes to have with harissa later. Full disclosure, I got the Trader Joe's harissa rather than making my own.
