The real catch is that if winning competitions justify your worth (rather than your win condition being playing), it will eat the joy out of your "game." Everyone loses sooner or later when someone is more experienced/skilled or simply luckier. Goes for anything; fencing, D&D, getting laid, surviving in late capitalism.

But our society is TERRIBLE about winning competitions determining value and uh, when that gets applied to sex it wrecks or ends lives.

After reading an article about Incels, I'm thinking that a lot of people - probably including some pickup artists - wanted to think of the whole PUA deal as practically innocent.

"Hey, let's try and get laid, no consequences" theoretically encompasses "and if it doesn't work, that's okay too; you can't always 'win.'" But when you throw sort of callous dismissal of others as mere goals, into competitive culture (see gamers) and misogyny it gets ugly fast.

Paranoia probably; PayPal sent a nastygram saying PLEASE CHECK YOUR SECURITY SETTINGS ARE UP TO DATE BEFORE JUNE 30 OR WE DISCONTINUE YOUR SERVICE, which I thought might be spearphishing, but it's legit afaik. I used their test page and got the official "no, it's cool, PayPal works" message, which means I'm still worried that they're gonna dick me over in 16 days.

as part of last week being running like crazy then this week being jobless yet not exactly unemployed, I think I want to slow down and be self indulgent a little more. As part of that I was thinking of getting either good ramen or really junky dim sum, later.

Something truly exhausting about 2018 is how it seems like anything "reasonable" sounding might be support for unsustainable and irrationally cruel situations we all live with.

And at some point, someone pulls enough egregious bullshit, you're within reason going look, this person's NOT gonna stop pulling egregious bullshit. There's room for self-preservation in this world.

"Accept that people are more nuanced than good vs evil" is wise, but when it comes from Jordan Peterson, my next question is "who are you trying to exonerate; why is that; and would you be saying the same thing if they were some group that aren't your fanbase, 'cause my guess is NO."

Y'know, there's a time to talk about how all people have capacity for great good and evil, how it's not that easy, etc, etc. And I really WANT to believe the alt right, fundies, MRA and MAGAs are redeemable, certainly I want them to benefit from a system which is kinder and better than what we have now.

But the thing is, whether *they're* innately evil or not doesn't matter, what matters is they're *doing* evil shit, *pushing* evil shit and *believing* in evil shit 300%.
