I didn't find the time/spine to straight up TELL A to do dishes, and they're too autistic to do it if it's not in their routine.
E didn't do the dishes 'cause they have a hard job and a long commute. K and P didn't do dishes because of chemical sensitivity and whatever else takes their spoons, tempting as it is to snap "they were too close to Baby Boomers to think about it."
So that meant I did them. The last 12 hours have been unusually long on stress and not so much on sleep.

rant re capitalism
I think there’s a way to have capitalism *actually be* all the noble sentiment about circulating wealth and thriving markets, but I have no clue (other than vague ideas about UBI, rent control, unions, universal health care and affordable education, etc) how to get there from here.
How do you convince those in power that, if resources are a 1-10 scale, most people being at 5 and a few people at 8 is healthier for everyone than most people being at 1-3 and a few at 10-12?

is flawless, so government is a good backup to keep people from dying on the streets right? Sounds pretty okay.
But like we know it doesn’t play out that way, it’s a heritable kleptocracy in which government isn’t there to help too often, which is an active danger to human survival as a species. We’re about as capitalist as the USSR was communist, our free market worship is a pretty gloss on feudalism and racism. (Cont)

to build a comfortable society. And I could imagine government and unions playing a role too; educated confident consumers and well paid employees with health care, without horrible debt, are more likely to start businesses or dump money into existing markets. Regulation creates markets and additional jobs, protects resources for long term surviv... I mean growth. It could be nice to have a place to go for resources other than community or government. No economic system (cont)

Years ago I tried to get certified as an accountant, but I just didn’t have the money to really go back to school. A prereq was Introduction to Business which, like you’d probably expect, had only good things to say about capitalism. This is why my opinion is a little less “there’s nothing good here, burn the fucker to the ground” than a lot of Mastodonians.
A lot of praise for THE MARKET sounded almost communistic. Wealth circulated through employees and consumers, (cont)
I remember when I came here the city seemed so magical. To some extent I’m probably dismissing this place as “an overpriced fap fantasy intended for someone else” as a subconscious oversimplification- if I hate this place it’ll help me move right? But life’s not that simple. This city and the Bay in general can still have special, wonderful, magical aspects *and* I can still need to get the fuck out of here.
woo, movie quotes
“May he who illuminated this work, illuminate me.”
Again, I love this line. Even though it’s phrased as a prayer, in context it’s at least partly directed at the long-dead human author of the manuscript. That to study history, to look to a world around us is another connection to the divine. So it’s simultaneously very religious but also very humanist and secular. I have opinions about the spirituality of simply being human, but they get weird and involved.

My plans for later are to rewatch either The Thirteenth Warrior or Jurassic Park, now that I own a copy. I want to head to Santa Cruz this weekend or walk at a favorite trail near Mountain View/visit a favorite ramen shop.
I’m just feeling frustrated right now, and isolated - most people I know are in Seattle and work is work.
So essentially what this one article had to say about Dunkleosteus is that we have lots of really dramatic fish heads, but other'n that we really don't know much about the postcrania, lifestyle, locomotion or how the heads looked on an actual fish.

house complaint
Have I mentioned recently how incredibly not-stoked I am about the rent, lack of assured parking, lack of fridge space, lack of laundry and dishwasher, and currently lack of lights in the bathroom? I can see how there’s only limited resources to throw at this stuff but I’m still angry.
Also if someone knows a gentle but firm way to encourage an autistic housemate to do the damn dishes so I’m not the only person washing dishes by hand, please let me know.
Lots of random gunk, but some drawings and cooking talk too. Obsesses about DnD and related topics. Left-leaning/profoundly frustrated politics. Black lives matter; trans rights are human rights.
