Ep VIII was actually bad imho because they completely downplayed Finn.

They nerfed him from potential Jedi to ineffective comic relief, gave him an unclear growth arc where they swapped out a potential Queer on-screen relationship, subservient to the stronger storyline of Rey trying to redeem Kylo and only kinda sorta succeeding, and Rose stopped him literally from saving the day.

I know they were trying to do an Empire like thing where none of our heroes win but all of them achieve personally significant stuff, and we sat through two previous trilogies full of Lucas trying to write really great stuff and being a little too clumsy to stick the landing, but it still didn't really come across and making the Black dude ineffectual is such a stereotypical movie thing you know?
