The discourse; my impression is nobody pushing AI art is selling it as "hey, this is a cool tool for *you* - it can only fully replace you in places that don't need your ability to make artistic judgment calls." But at pretty much every level it sure seems to be phrased as just more fuck over anything that looks like a worker. This is the sort of alienation Marx was on about.
personal bleah about the Bay Area
For a while there, I lived in what I consider the nicest part of the Bay Area, the greater world situation wasn't the hell it became in 2020, and most importantly there was rent control in place, all of which meant a little more resources to deal with personal tragedies and past history; all of which meant I was near at least two yearly conventions to look forward to. And then in 2018 the rent control went away which forced a move, a hoped for job didn't come through, and emotional/physical fallout from 2017 slammed home.
Even though I really shouldn't feel nostalgic for this part of my life (I'd just come out of some truly terrible stuff, and some fairly bad things happened while I lived in Alameda), I can't help thinking about aging, inflation, stuff open after 7 PM, friends elsewhere, and how I don't think I'm ever really going to get to cons again AND ugh, it's a mess.
I am really tired of not being good enough for people who have previously decided that I cannot be good enough for them. I fucking dumped an entire year of my life into this job. Who knows what 2021/2022 would have looked like without being overworked?
The good news is that my replacement actuator came so I can maybe have a working trunk to my car again.
The not-so-good news is I had to fiddle with Amazon stuff to get it and I really hate contributing to Amazon in even a small way.
The bad news is unemployment needs to interview me about my claim despite having all paperwork I was given, it should be indisputable, I thought it was indisputable for two weeks now, and I really do NOT want to deal with those assholes firing me even MORE.
Images, fantasy creatures, eye contact
#drawings today, a paladin on a hippogryph challenges a devil, and two monsters, a tanuki and a doppelgänger (I really want a playable tanuki in games!).
Lots of random gunk, but some drawings and cooking talk too. Obsesses about DnD and related topics. Left-leaning/profoundly frustrated politics. Black lives matter; trans rights are human rights.
